Matchup: UCLA Bruins (16-11) vs. Arizona Wildcats (23-3)

Records aside, this is a great rivalry that features two teams that could represent the Pac-12 in the 2015 NCAA tournament. Arizona is a lock. Although throwing that lock word around can get a little old sometimes (especially when a team is said to be a “lock” and then ends up settling for an NIT appearance), Arizona actually could lose the rest of its games and still make the dance.

UCLA has some work to do, and it all starts against the Wildcats. A win in this game would be huge.

What to Watch For

The Bruins are pretty balanced on the offensive side of the ball. Five players are averaging 10+ points per game, after all. It’s Norman Powell who is leading the team with 16 points per game, though.

As usual, Sean Miller‘s team is stacked, but it is freshman Stanley Johnson who is leading the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game.

Prediction

As much as the Bruins need this win, we just don’t see that one happening. Are they on the bubble? Sure. However, they have 11 losses and will be playing one of the best teams in the country … on the road.

The Wildcats are certainly beatable (have lost to UNLV, Arizona State and Oregon State), but don’t expect them to fall against the less talented Bruins.

UCLA is going to have to find some wins elsewhere, and more than likely needs a decent run in the Pac-12 tourney. You know, if it plans on making the Big Dance.

UCLA 65, Arizona 69
