Matchup: SMU Mustangs (23-5) vs. Connecticut Huskies (16-11)

While the Mustangs are safely in the tournament right now, the Huskies could use a miracle. In fact, they more than likely have to win their conference tournament if they plan on making the NCAA tournament.

Still, this should be a pretty good matchup. After all, Connecticut still has quite a bit of talent, and SMU is the best team in the conference.

What to Watch For

The Mustangs don’t put up the most points in college basketball, but they do have Nic Moore, who is averaging 14.6 points per game. Moore is one of four players averaging 10+ points per game on SMU.

Ryan Boatright is a lethal scorer (17.5 PPG). If the Huskies have any chance of winning this game, it is Boatright who is really going to have to step up.

Prediction

There are a couple of things going against the Huskies, though. SMU is riding a five-game winning streak. It also beat Connecticut once this season (Feb. 14) by the score of 73-55. Not to mention, Connecticut has 11 losses. SMU only has five.

If the Huskies are going to go on a run, they need that run to start in the AAC tournament. Winning this contest would certainly give it plenty of momentum going forward, though.

Regardless, we have to go with the best team in the AAC. The Mustangs have only lost two conference games and they have the talent to make a deep run in the dance.

SMU 71, Connecticut 65
