Although anything goes in March, sure, but more often than not the higher seed wins. When in doubt, kick the lower seed out.

For instance, if you have a No. 5 seed going up against a No. 4 seed in the round of 32 and don’t see the No. 5 advancing but you like the No. 12 seed in the game against the No. 5 seed, it might be okay to put the No. 12 over the No. 5. Did you get all that?

Veteran guards matter. Spare Kentucky in 2012, try naming one champion without a veteran guard. (See: Shabazz Napier, Peyton Siva, Kemba Walker, Jon Scheyer) The list goes on and on.

Just last year, Tennessee played in what is now the obsolete term, “first round”, and made it all the way to the Sweet 16. La Salle did the same in 2013. Don’t think the play in games don’t matter.

Is a team playing close to home? If a team is playing in close proximity to its home location, it could give that said team a home-court advantage -- this is a huge edge in college hoops.

Offense wins games, but defense wins championships. The old adage holds true in the NCAA Tournament. Take note of good defensive teams like Virginia, San Diego State and Utah. Defense might not be pretty, but in March only one thing matters -- survive and advance.

No. 1 seeds have won 100 percent of first-round games and 93.5 percent of games against No. 9 seeds. Try not to bet against the four best teams in the field of 68.

If you know nothing else and only take away one thing from this slideshow, pick Kentucky. Kentucky has the opportunity to become one of the greatest college basketball teams of all time. They are by far and away the best team in college basketball this year. It would be remiss not to send the Wildcats to at least the Final Four.
