Matchup: Butler Bulldogs (21-9) vs. Providence Friars (21-9)

Butler and Providence have no shot at winning the Big East regular season title, but that is pretty clear. They do have a chance to enter the Big East tourney with some momentum, though.

Both teams are tied for second place in the conference standings. For all it’s worth, they are also ranked in the top 25. After this game, those rankings go out the window, though.

The Friars got the best of the Bulldogs in the first meeting (66-62).

What to Watch For

Butler’s Kellen Dunham is one of the best scorers in the conference (16.7 PPG). With that said, Providence’s LaDontae Henton is one of the best scorers in college hoops (20.5 PPG), and is leading the conference in scoring.

Prediction

Butler has been vulnerable lately, and actually lost its last game. Providence hasn’t been the best team down the stretch either, but it has won its past two games.

Luckily for the Friars, they have the pleasure of playing this one in front of their fans.

Right now, it is all about seeding for these two teams. Although stranger things have happened, they should both make the 2015 NCAA tournament (considered locks right now). This will be yet another preview of how great the Big East tournament is going to be this year.

Look for the best scorer in the conference to come up big, and for Providence to sweep the season series. Of course, the Bulldogs should give the Friars a pretty good fight.

Butler 65, Providence 70
