At 18-12, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are on the outside looking in. Because of several factors, including the Cowboys limping into the Big 12 Tournament, the Pokes will be in the NIT instead of the NCAA Tournament this March. Here are the top five reasons why Oklahoma State will miss the cut.

Instead of peaking down the stretch, the Cowboys are limping into the postseason. Oklahoma State has lost five of their last six and only beat TCU during that stretch.

Oklahoma State's non-conference strength of schedule was ranked 155th in the country, and the teams they've played proved that number to be true. The Cowboys' best wins came against Tulsa at a neutral site and Memphis on the road, which won't be making any tournament runs this season.

Two horrible losses will doom the Cowboys on Selection Sunday. The Pokes lost to TCU and Texas Tech on the road, the two worst teams in the Big 12.

Oklahoma State's best win this season came against Kansas at home. The Cowboys also have season sweeps of Texas and Baylor, but those teams aren't juggernauts.

In order to make the tournament, a team has to at least have a winning record in their conference. The Cowboys finished the season at 8-10 in the Big 12 with losses to eight of the 10 teams. The Cowboys will have to make a major statement in the Big 12 Tournament to get into March Madness.
