The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team is undefeated. Fact. Since the late-evening of Jan. 28, so are the Duke Blue Devils.

Since the Blue Devils’ last loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Jan. 28, Duke has been on an absolute ACC rampage. The Blue Devils’ list of eviscerated victims includes the No. 3 ranked Virginia Cavaliers, the Syracuse Orange (twice), the North Carolina Tar Heels (twice), and Duke’s most recent thrashing, a 77-53 win over the NC State Wolfpack in the Blue Devils’ ACC tournament opener.

The case for a No. 1 seed just became open-and-shut. Mike Krzyzewski has Duke on a 12-game winning streak and has the Blue Devils’ averaging a 14.6 point margin of victory over that stretch.

In the race to become the nation’s most impressive second-fiddle to Kentucky, Duke is neck-and-neck with Virginia, and head-and-shoulders above the Wisconsin Badgers. Running the back-end of the table in ACC play given the competitive value of the conference adds more clout to Duke’s streak, and is perhaps derivative from the effect of the last year’s devastating NCAA tournament loss to the Mercer Bears.

Kentucky is more talented top to bottom, starting five versus starting five, and any other way you’d wish to analyze Wildcats against Blue Devils. But it’s the fire Duke is playing with that could burn a hole in Big Blue Nation’s perfect season. When Duke secures a No. 1 seed it may just be a two-weekend countdown until we see Goliath against a grooving David.

Kentucky, you are the best team in college basketball, but Duke, you are the most dangerous.
