Everyone knew that the VCU Rams were a talented team, but after Briante Weber‘s injury, the team has not been the same. Now, the Rams are looking like their old selves after their huge victory over the Davidson Wildcats.

Many players have stepped up in Weber’s absence, including Treveon Graham, JeQuan Lewis and Melvin Johnson. Lewis has been the facilitator ever since Weber went down, and it took him some time to adjust to the role. He now seems to have a grasp on being the floor general.

The Rams played a terrific game on Saturday on both ends of the floor and looked much better than Davidson, one of the hottest teams in college basketball. The Rams held the Wildcats to 25.9 percent shooting from the 3-point line, which is the Wildcats’ greatest weapon. Every time Davidson drove inside, VCU was there with Mo Alie-Cox or Justin Tillman, who defended well in the paint.

The Rams have also been shooting terrifically from the beyond the arc during the Atlantic 10 tournament, which was a problem for them earlier in the season. Graham went 4-of-4 from outside against the Wildcats, and the Rams shot 50 percent from outside as a team. If they continue to shoot like they have been, the Rams will be tough to defeat during the NCAA tournament.

The Rams are looking at a No. 6 or No. 7 seed depending on if they win the conference tournament. VCU could end up being the most dangerous No. 6-7 seed in the Big Dance.
