The Villanova Wildcats rolled through the regular season, posting a 32-2 record on their way to winning the Big East title. Jay Wright and his team followed that by winning the Big East Conference Tournament on Saturday, cruising past the Xavier Musketeers to win their 15th straight game.

Lafayette finished fourth in the Patriot League during the regular season, but won three straight in the conference tournament, including a semifinal upset of regular season champion Bucknell to earn their way into the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

What to Watch For

These two teams love to score, so this could be an up-tempo,  high-scoring game. Villanova is 23rd in the country in scoring, averaging 76.3 points per game. Lafayette is 34th in the country, scoring 74.2 points per outing.

Darrun Hilliard leads Villanova in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game, while Josh Hart (10.4 points per game) and Ryan Arcidiacono (10.2 ppg) are also double figures.

Senior forward Dan Trist averages 17.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while senior forward Seth Hinrichs scores 13.1 points per outing. It will be interesting to see how these two big players fare against the size of Villanova.

Prediction

Lafayette will have a hard time guarding this deep Villanova team. The Wildcats have great balance on offense and defense, which makes them very difficult to defend and to score against. And, to make things just a little bit tougher on Lafayette, a 16 seed has never beaten a number one seed. It won’t happen in this game, either.

Villanova 86, Lafayette 62
