Heading into the 2015 NCAA Tournament, the Georgetown Hoyas are a team seemingly primed to disappoint. Despite finishing the season at 21-10, the committee still decided to award them with a No. 4 seed in the South, which will provide the No. 13 Eastern Washington Eagles with the opportunity to secure a Round of 64 upset.

The Eagles, a team that finished 26-8 and is coming off a Big Sky Conference Championship, has plenty of momentum heading into the tournament. They’ve won six out of their last seven games, and appear primed to adopt the “Cinderella” label.

What to Watch For

The Hoyas don’t do anything particularly well. Apart from the well-rounded play of junior guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, they’ve struggled to play consistently on both sides of the court. While some see them as a sleeper team that could emerge during the tournament, their lack of quality wins against top competition shows they are far from being primed for a serious run.

That’s why the Eagles will give them more than they can handle. The Eastern Washington offense has been outstanding this season, averaging 80.8 points per game behind the impressive play of sophomore guard Tyler Harvey. Currently averaging 22.9 points and 2.6 assists per game, Harvey will be rearing to take advantage of a less-than-impressive Georgetown defense. Venky Jois, a junior forward, should also be a key factor after averaging 16.6 points and 7.7 rebounds during the season.

Prediction

If Harvey and Jois come to play, the Eagles may just be able to give the Hoyas more than they can handle. It’s certainly going to be a tough game for both teams, but the Georgetown defense might just prove to be a bigger crutch than many would like to admit. Expect this to be one of the most exciting games of the Round of 64, with Eastern Washington coming away with a surprise victory.
