The Ivy League usually earns just one NCAA tournament bid per year, and in the last four seasons, Tommy Amaker and the Harvard Crimson have earned all of them. The former Michigan Wolverines head coach is enjoying this 2015 tournament bid as his former team has failed to find the bracket. If history is any indicator, it smiles upon the Crimson as the Ivy League frontrunner has won a tournament game in each of the last two dances.

Speaking of history, the North Carolina Tar Heels own an anthology. From Michael Jordan to James Worthy, from Jerry Stackhouse, Vince Carter and Rasheed Wallace, to Tyler Hansborough and Harrison Barnes, the Heels have more tournament lineage than any team east of the UCLA Bruins.

Academic prowess goes up against athletic genius in a matchup that can only be argued through Harvard’s greatest asset: coaching. Although Amaker has been a godsend, Roy Williams is still one of the top-five coaches in the country. Couple that with a wealth of talent, and Harvard’s chances depend on if the glass slipper fits.

What To Watch For

Momentum will be the X-factor. If the Tar Heels put Harvard into an early deficit, the Crimson will have little recourse. Harvard has to slow down the Heels by any means necessary, because North Carolina’s transition game can be lethal.

Prediction

Williams should know his recent batch of high-end talent by now, and North Carolina should be too much for the Crimson. Upsets can and will happen, but another opening round win for Harvard seems the most doubtful out of the unlikely.
