How They Qualified: At-large berth

It has been quite the up-and-down season for the Iowa Hawkeyes as they usually end long winning streaks with two and three-game losing streaks. However, this team has some serious potential and despite the Big Ten’s down year, the Hawkeyes have the talent and experience to make it deep into March.

Head coach Fran McCaffery has turned the Hawkeyes from a Big Ten bottom-dweller into a consistent top-five conference title contender in just a matter of a few years. His teams have been improving each and every year and with few seniors on this squad, the future is bright for the Hawkeyes.

What You Need to Know:

Leading Scorer: Aaron White (16.0 ppg)

Leading Rebounder: Aaron White (7.5 rpg)

Leading Passer: Mike Gesell (3.9 apg)

Bad Losses: at Northwestern, vs. Penn State

Good Wins: at North Carolina, vs. Ohio State (twice), vs. Maryland

Aaron White was on an absolute tear to finish the regular season, averaging over 20 points while shooting over 20 percent from the field. He is the team’s leader and as a senior, he will be expected to carry the load when it matters most. If you’re looking for someone who can make a name for himself with a deep March run, it’s Aaron White.

Keep an eye on Jarrod Uthoff on the perimeter as well as Gabriel Olaseni in the post. Uthoff has the ability to drain threes and take the ball to the rack while Olaseni has a NBA body and can back down any defender with relative ease.

Watch out for the Hawkeyes, because their tough-minded approach will be a nightmare for any team standing in their way during NCAA Tournament time.
