Conference: Mountain West Conference

How They Qualified: Mountain West Conference Tournament Champions

Region: No. 12 seed in East

The Wyoming Cowboys burst NCAA tournament bubbles everywhere when they decided to win their conference tournament championship. Although the Cowboys needed the automatic bid just to get in, it’s not like they came completely out of nowhere. After all, these Cowboys did beat some of the best teams in the conference this season, and finished with a conference record of 11-7.

What You Need to Know:

Leading Scorer: Larry Nance Jr. (16.1 PPG)

Leading Rebounder: Larry Nance Jr. (7.3 RPG)

Leading Passer: Josh Adams (3.6 APG)

Bad Losses: Air Force, New Mexico

Good Wins: Colorado State (twice), Boise State (twice), San Diego State

The Cowboys managed to beat Boise State and San Diego State in back-to-back games in the MW tournament. Now that is how you win your conference tournament — beat arguably the two best teams in the conference.

Sneaking in the tournament or not, watch out for Nance Jr. Wyoming may have only scored 45 points against the Aztecs in the MW title game, but Nance Jr. had 14 of those points. Needless to say, Nance Jr. can lead his team to a win or two in the 2015 NCAA tournament. Stay tuned for that one.

This certainly isn’t the most talented team in the dance, but it does enter hot. Being red-hot is sometimes better than having all of the talent in the world (remember, only sometimes).

The Wyoming Cowboys are dancing!
