All Cinderella stories typically come to an end. Unfortunately for the UCLA Bruins, their run is about to meet said end. No. 11 seed UCLA will meet up with the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Sweet 16.

No. 2 seed Gonzaga will enter this game as heavy favorites.

The Bulldogs arguably have their best team ever (notice the word arguably), and this is definitely not UCLA’s most talented team. In fact, people are still complaining about the Bruins making the dance.

It is going to take a complete flop by the Bulldogs and a perfect game by the Bruins for this upset to happen.

What to Watch For

Gonzaga is stacked. That tends to be the case when a team averages 79.1 points per game and only gives up 61.5 in the process. If you need some players to watch out for, though, make sure to keep an eye on Kevin Pangos and Kyle Wiltjer. The two combined for 40 points in the round of 32 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Bryce Alford is having himself a tournament. He had 27 points in the round of 64 and 22 points in the round of 32. Oh yeah, he also drained nine threes against the SMU Mustangs. Norman Powell leads the Bruins in scoring at 16.4 PPG. Also, it is important to note that Tony Parker had 28 points and 12 rebounds last game.

Prediction

Head coach Steve Alford and the Bruins have overachieved. I suppose if Bryce Alford stays hot and players like Parker step up, UCLA has a chance to pull off the upset. I am not buying that one, though.

If the ‘Zags are going to get to the Final Four, this is going to be the team that takes them there. UCLA may stand in the way of that goal, but the Bruins won’t be standing there for long.

Gonzaga 81, UCLA 65
