2015 NCAA Tournament Preview: No. 4 Louisville Cardinals vs. No. 8 NC State Wolfpack

Let’s see a show of hands for how many people predicted the Louisville Cardinals and NC State Wolfpack to play each other in this year’s Sweet 16. On your first bracket, not 10th.

Not predicting these teams to play each other or not, this rematch should make for one heck of a watch.

These teams met back in ACC play on Feb. 14. The Wolfpack won that contest by the score of 74-65.

Although Louisville is the No. 4 seed and NC State the No. 8 seed, this one has nothing to do with seeds. This is a battle between two conference opponents — two teams that are fairly familiar with one another.

What to Watch For

On NC State’s end, you have players like Trevor Lacey (leading scorer) and Anthony Barber.

On Louisville’s side, you have players like Montrezl Harrell and Terry Rozier (leading scorer).

If Lacey comes up big and has some help along the way, I like the Wolfpack to come out on top. However, if Rozier scores 25 points again (scored that many in round of 32) and the Cardinals’ defense gives up less than 60 points again, I like the Cardinals.

Prediction

With that in mind, I have to go with NC State. Here’s why: (1) the Wolfpack already beat Louisville once this season. (2) NC State is coming off a win against No. 1 seed Villanova. (3) Louisville couldn’t even beat NC State when it had Chris Jones (Jones had 20 points in that contest).

Louisville’s defense is really good (only allowing 59.2 PPG), but Lacey & Co. will not be stopped.

Louisville 63, NC State 74
