The Iowa State Cyclones are in need of a new head basketball coach after Fred Hoiberg left for the Chicago Bulls.

Unfortunately for Iowa State, the school’s athletic director and university president have different ideas on who they would like to see take over for Hoiberg.

AD Jamie Pollard wants to hire Cyclones assistant T.J. Otzelberger, according to CBS’ Gary Parrish. University president Steven Heath, meanwhile, wants the school to go after a much bigger game.

“He feels the level of the job has changed since Fred got here,” one source said of Leath. “He wants to bring in someone with some pedigree. It’s a battle of wills right now.”

It is interesting to see the president trying to bring in his own guy, but he should take a backseat in this situation.

Iowa State hired Jamie Pollard as the athletic director for situations like this. If he believes Otzelberger is the right man for the job and that the hire would keep team chemistry together, that is the direction the Cyclones should go.
