The Baylor Bears could not have predicted their first-round upset at the hands of the R.J. Hunter and the Georgia State Panthers in the 2015 NCAA tournament. For the rest of their lives, the Bears’ players are likely going to have to see themselves lose to Georgia State and Panthers’ Head Coach Ron Hunter falling to the floor every March.

However, don’t expect Baylor to hang their heads coming into the 2015-16 season. Expect their disappointing end to the 2015 NCAA tournament to be just another motivating factor for one of the better teams in the Big 12.

The two biggest strengths for Baylor are actually bigs. Rico Gathers and Taurean Prince are both over 6-foot-7 and averaged a combined 25.5 points and 17.2 rebounds per game. It should be no surprise that the Bears have the most talented and experienced frontcourt in all of college basketball.

The glaring weakness for this team is the lack of a true scoring guard after the departure of Kenny Cherry. Their depth at the guard position and their reliance on Cherry’s play hindered them last season, but you can expect Lester Medford to take a step forward. Medford had decent numbers last season, but must step up on the offensive end if this team is to take it to the next level.

Although lacking in big-name recruits, Scott Drew and his staff consistently bring in talented recruits who are able to play key roles for the Bears. Gathers, Prince and Medford may be the three players who must have success for Baylor to be legitimate contenders in the Big 12.

Overall, expect Baylor to be one of the best teams in the country. Although the Bears may not begin the season in the top 15, I expect Baylor to be a top-three seed in the NCAA tournament once again. Hopefully the Bears can find a way to avoid being upset this time.
