Kansas State Basketball: Early 2015-16 Outlook

The Kansas State Wildcats come into the 2015-16 season in a state of turmoil. After starting last season as a dark horse favorite to win the Big 12, Kansas State finished the regular season under .500 after losing nine of their final 12 games.

Not only was last season a complete bust, but the Wildcats lose their three leading scorers, returning no one who scored over 6.3 points per game last season. Justin Edwards and Wesley Iwundu won’t get any help off of the bench either, as four of the Wildcats’ young players who saw time on the court last season have decided to transfer.

Things could not get much worse for Kansas State basketball and Bruce Weber, but the nearly complete transition of this team could lead to bright spots down the road. With several starting spots up for grabs, the Wildcats could quickly become a destination for some of the top players in the country who want to show off their skills and be a go-to player. Weber is an excellent defensive coach, and his teams always seem to overachieve. Hopefully this happens soon, because otherwise the Wildcats look to be headed in a downward spiral.

I expect the 2015-16 season to end in disappointment for Kansas State. This team is far too well-coached to finish at the very bottom of the Big 12, but do not be surprised if they finish next to last with only the Texas Tech Red Raiders behind them. The days of a borderline elite Kansas State are gone for now, and Weber and Co. must do something soon to change it.
