Florida State Is Beginning To Look Like A Basketball School Now

Here’s a trivia question that you may want to throw out the next time you and your buddies are having a talk or debate around the water cooler. Who’s the only five-star freshman in the ACC who didn’t sign with the Duke Blue Devils? Here’s another question. Who did he sign with? If you were able to successfully answer both questions without using Google, you’re either a fan of the Florida State Seminoles or a college basketball junkie in general.

If you haven’t figured the answers out yet, here’s a quick rundown of what’s happened in Tallahassee since last season ended. Dwayne Bacon, for whatever reason, has decided to spend what may be his only year playing college basketball with Florida State. Last year, the Seminoles lost 10 games in the ACC but have only lost Kiel Turpin from the roster. The return of Xavier Rathan-Mayes and the addition of Malik Beasley, Terance Mann and Benji Bell gives Florida State some shooters that, at times, seemed to be missing from last year’s roster.

It’s not quite time to start believing this team is ready to make a run at the ACC crown yet. It’s not time to think this team is Final Four worthy. You definitely shouldn’t think any nets are going to be cut down, but an upset or two isn’t out of the realm of possibility. These guys are huge. Many of these gentlemen stand 6-foot-8 or taller; and if one or two of them can play at the level that we’re sure to see from the backcourt, it’s realistic to hear a little noise coming out of Tallahassee for something other than football come March.
