Unlike recent years, the Florida Gators did not enter the 2015-16 college basketball season with a fancy top 10 ranking and they surely are not receiving national title buzz. The Gators have still managed to compile a 6-1 record up until this point. They can get quite the resume booster by knocking off the Miami Hurricanes next.
Miami is 7-1 on the year and rocks a ranking entering this contest. The Hurricanes’ lone loss came against the Northeastern Huskies … because college hoops can be strange like that from time to time. Miami does hold notable wins over the Utah Utes, Butler Bulldogs and Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Florida’s loss (in blowout fashion, might I add) came against the Purdue Boilermakers, which is a team that has the talent to make a Final Four run. The Gators are still in search for that signature win, but will get plenty of opportunities since they play in the SEC.
Make no mistake about it, the Gators have plenty of talent. Here are a few guys opposing teams must watch out for: Dorian Finney-Smith, Kasey Hill and John Egbunu.
As for the Hurricanes, Angel Rodriguez is always one to keep an eye on, and Sheldon McClellan is currently leading the team in the scoring department.
When it comes to containing other squads in scoring, Florida has been one of the best teams in the business (allowing 58.7 PPG). It would only be right if Miami had one of the better offenses in the country, though, which it does (averaging 87.6 points per game).
As usual, this matchup should provide some fireworks, but I am predicting the Gator upset in this one.
PREDICTION: Gators 71, Hurricanes 70
