TV Schedule: Saturday, Dec. 12, 2:30 p.m. ET, PAC12

Stadium: Haas Pavilion

Saint Mary’s Gaels vs. California Golden Bears might not be the most exciting game on paper, but it is still a clash that could feature two teams that make the 2016 NCAA tournament. I’ll take that type of contest any day of the week.

The Gaels enter with a perfect 6-0 record, and their most notable win came against the Stanford Cardinal. The Golden Bears will do battle with a 7-2 record, and they are still looking for that signature win.

Although the Golden Bears entered the 2015-16 college basketball season with quite a bit of hype, they have already dropped games against the San Diego State Aztecs and Richmond Spiders. Hopefully for their sake (and their resume) both of those teams end up making the dance.

The Gaels are putting up 82 points per game and are also only allowing 61 in the process. Emmett Naar is leading the charge with 16.5 PPG. As for Cal, it is averaging 78.6 PPG and allowing 67.7. The Golden Bears have a good amount of players who can put the ball in the hoop at a decent rate, but it is Tyrone Wallace who is at the top of the scoring department with 18.4 points per contest.

Two losses aside, Cal is a very talented squad, and one that could end up winning the Pac-12. Of course, it has plenty of work to do before it can achieve that goal, but knocking off Saint Mary’s would get it heading in the right direction.

And, of course, home-court advantage will certainly do California some favors.

PREDICTION: Gaels 70, Golden Bears 78
