The calendar has flipped to 2016 which means conference play is underway for the Connecticut Huskies. Now is when the college basketball season hits its most crucial stretch. Here are five things the Huskies would like to see happen as 2016 gets going.

After a so-so non-conference stretch that saw them beat Texas, Michigan and Ohio State but lose several key games, UConn needs the AAC to pick it up. The conference is a bit down this year with Tulsa and Temple falling. They need the conference to play better so UConn's wins look better to the selection committee.

UConn would like to see their two key freshmen develop and improve a bit more. Enoch certainly needs to in Amida Brimah's absence, and Adams has been way too inconsistent early on for someone who seems to be the sixth man. They both have shown how good they can be, and now they need to realize it on a regular basis.

Sterling Gibbs has also struggled a bit this season, but perhaps he's on his way out of it as he hit several big shots against Tulane on Saturday. If he can get going offensively, UConn becomes that much more dangerous. He could be their biggest key in the second half.

2. Rodney Purvis Stays Hot

Purvis has seemed to take over the role as Husky alpha dog. He is averaging 15.6 PPG this season and has been UConn's best scoring weapon all year long. They need him to stay hot and make this a normal thing. He certainly has the talent to do so.

UConn's most important wish is to see Amida Brimah back and healthy ASAP. They need his defensive presence back out there on the court. UConn has struggled with their defense at times and his injury is the biggest reason why. They need the big fella back.
