Seton Hall vs. Villanova College Basketball Preview, TV Schedule, Prediction

By Trevor Lowry

TV Schedule: Wednesday, Jan. 6, 7:00 p.m. ET, FS1

Stadium: The Pavilion (Villanova)

Believe it or not, the Villanova Wildcats and Seton Hall Pirates both enter this Big East clash with a 12-2 record. However, it is Villanova who is ranked as high as No. 11 in college hoops.

That is probably because Seton Hall’s two losses have come against mid-majors, and it also hasn’t beaten (or played) a single ranked opponent on the year. That said, the Pirates have knocked off squads like Ole Miss, Georgia, Marquette and Wichita State — and they are also 2-0 in conference play.

Meanwhile, Villanova’s losses came against Oklahoma and Virginia, who are two of the best teams in the sport. The Wildcats do have a signature win against Xavier. Villanova also brings a 2-0 Big East record to the table, just to make things a little more interesting.

The stats: Three Pirates are averaging 12 or more points per game, and the team is averaging 74.7 points per game overall. Four Wildcats are averaging double figures in the scoring department, and the team is averaging 78.1 points per game.

All off said stats aside, the Big East is wide open. Conference play did just start, after all. Also, teams like Butler, Xavier, Providence, the two teams in this battle and others should make things very interesting for the rest of the regular season.

Nevertheless, good luck to the Pirates in this one. Going up against Villanova is never an easy feat, and Seton Hall will have to do so on the road.

PREDICTION: Pirates 67, Wildcats 77
