Texas Tech vs. Iowa State College Basketball Preview, TV Schedule, Prediction

By Trevor Lowry

TV Schedule: Wednesday, Jan. 6, 9:00 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Stadium: Hilton Coliseum

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have just one loss to their name entering this monster game — well, monster game for them, that is. That one loss came against Utah. Since then, the Red Raiders have rattled off 10 wins in a row. We will really see how good this squad is in the next two contests, as Texas Tech takes on Iowa State and Kansas in back-to-back games.

The Cyclones enter this battle with a record of 11-2. They dropped clashes against Northern Iowa and Oklahoma. As most fans are probably well aware of, Iowa State has the goods to win a Big 12 title and the NCAA tournament. Of course, the Big 12 is stacked at the top once again, so achieving the Big 12 title thing is going to be way easier said than done.

The goal for any team taking on Iowa State: Trying to contain Georges Niang. He is averaging 19.6 points per game, and the Cyclones are averaging 85.8 PPG as a team.

In comparison, the Red Raiders are putting up 76.8 PPG … and they don’t have a Georges Niang.

Texas Tech has gotten off to a great start so far, but life in the Big 12 might play rather tough. If not, and if the Red Raiders continue to rack up the wins, then they will be considered serious Big 12 title contenders.

However, let’s talk after the battles between Iowa State and Kansas.

Until Texas Tech actually knocks off a true road opponent, Iowa State is the easy pick here.

PREDICTION: Red Raiders 71, Cyclones 84
