Kansas vs. Texas Tech: College Basketball Game Preview, Prediction, TV Schedule

By Taylor Sturm

TV Schedule: Saturday, Jan. 9, 9:00 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Arena: United Supermarkets Arena, Lubbock, TX

Line: Kansas (-7.5)

After surviving 46 points from Buddy Hield, the Kansas Jayhawks are coming off of what could be described as the greatest game in recent college basketball memory, winning against the Oklahoma Sooners in overtime 109-106.

That being said, things will not get much easier for the Jayhawks, because their overtime thriller with the Sooners also showed everyone that the Big 12 is the best conference in the country.

Next up for the Jayhawks is a trip to Lubbock, Texas, to face off with the 11-2 Texas Tech Red Raiders, who have surprised many with their impressive start to the season.

Boasting solid wins over Arkansas-Little Rock, the Richmond Spiders and the Texas Longhorns, Texas Tech needs to simply avoid bad losses in conference play to non-NCAA Tournament bound opposition to make it to the Big Dance. Sure, an upset over the No. 1 Jayhawks would all but solidify their spot in March Madness, but this team doesn’t need to win this game, which should allow for them to play much more relaxed against their far more talented opponents.

Although I like the Red Raiders, I doubt they will pull off the upset against No. 1 Kansas. Perry Ellis and Wayne Selden Jr. have been on fire lately, and it’s very unlikely that Texas Tech has what it takes to contain both of these players, as well as many of the others on the Jayhawks’ roster.

This one won’t be as much of a blowout as many are predicting, but Kansas will get a road win and solidify their place as the No. 1 college basketball team in the country.

Prediction: Kansas 78, Texas Tech 73
