Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia: College Basketball Game Preview, Prediction, TV Schedule

By Taylor Sturm

TV Schedule: Saturday, Jan. 9, 1:00 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Arena: WVU Coliseum, Morgantown, WV

Line: West Virginia (-13)

The West Virginia Mountaineers are ranked No. 17 in the country after racing out to a 13-1 start to 2015-16, but have yet to face any of the elite teams in the Big 12 and their lone loss this season came against the only ranked opponent they faced, the Virginia Cavaliers.

With back-to-back matchups with the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks and No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners looming, avoiding bad losses will be key to West Virginia earning a 2016 NCAA tournament berth and more importantly, receiving a favorable seed.

Next up for the Mountaineers are the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who are coming off of their worst loss of the season on the road to the Baylor Bears.

Although they have a dismal 9-5 record with an easy non-conference schedule, Oklahoma State is a sneaky good team that will pull off an upset sometime in conference play. This team boasts the making of an elite college basketball defense, but their fledgling offense takes away from their talent. Ranked No. 239 in points per game, the Cowboys just cannot find the offensive spark necessary to compete late in games, which is why three of their five losses have come by one possession or less.

West Virginia might have one eye on their next two massive games, but they will not slip at home to Oklahoma State. Expect leading WVU scorer Devin Williams to be the difference, as the Mountaineers stomp the Cowboys and continue their winning ways for at least one more game.

Prediction: West Virginia 76, Oklahoma State 66
