Kansas vs. West Virginia: College Basketball Game Preview, Prediction, TV Schedule

By Taylor Sturm

TV Schedule: Tuesday, Jan. 12, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2

Arena: WVU Coliseum, Morgantown, WV

As expected, the West Virginia Mountaineers rolled over the Oklahoma State Cowboys in their last game, 77-60. Next up for the Mountaineers, however, is a back-to-back set with the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country, with the first coming against the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks on Tuesday night in Morgantown.

The Jayhawks found themselves struggling in their last game against a solid defensive Texas Tech Red Raiders squad on the road, but pulled away in the second half to record their thirteenth straight win. Kansas, who will enjoy an “easy” stretch of three games after their showdown with West Virginia, have played two ranked opponents in their last three games and three in their last four once playing WVU. Although the TCU Horned Frogs, Oklahoma State and Texas Longhorns are no pushover teams, they will be a major relief from the gauntlet the Jayhawks have had to run recently.

That being said, defeating West Virginia on the road will be no simple task for Kansas. The Mountaineers boast one of the best offenses in the country, and more importantly have shown a talented defense to match. This team will firmly believe that they can pull off the upset over the No. 1 team in the country behind the outstanding play of Devin Williams and Co.

Fortunately for the Jayhawks, leading WVU scorer Williams is no Buddy Hield. This game will be extremely close and come down to the wire, but Jevon Carter and Jaysean Paige should find themselves struggling against the Kansas defense. Give this one to the No. 1 Jayhawks, but we could be getting an early preview of the Big 12 championship game.

Prediction: Kansas 74, West Virginia 70
