Georgetown vs. Xavier College Basketball Game Preview, Prediction, TV Schedule

By Taylor Sturm

TV Schedule: Tuesday, Jan. 19, 8:30 p.m. ET (Fox Sports 1)

Arena: Cintas Center, Cincinnati, Ohio

Line: Xavier (-10)

Since being blown out at the hands of the Villanova Wildcats, the Xavier Musketeers have won four straight games in Big East play. Arguably playing in the best conference from top to bottom in college basketball, the Musketeers sit at second in the Big East standings just 1.5 games behind Villanova.

Next up for Xavier is a home matchup with the Georgetown Hoyas, who are just a half game behind the Musketeers and two games behind the Wildcats.

Georgetown played Villanova close in their last game, but could not hold on at the end. An extremely talented team with tons of potential, the Hoyas have lost to Radford, Monmouth and UNC Ashville, meaning that they are going to have to pull off some upsets in conference play if they want to even be on the NCAA tournament bubble heading into March. Unless they do something soon, Georgetown could be headed for an empty postseason and looking towards next season.

Where things get tricky in the Big East is on the road, and Georgetown has shown a tendency to struggle both on the road and at home. With Edmond Sumner finally returning to play for the Musketeers since his injury against Villanova, Xavier should win this one fairly easily.

Expect this game to be closer than the 10 points the line suggests due to the talent on this Georgetown roster, but the Musketeers will come out on top against a Hoyas squad that’s just barely hanging on to their 2016 NCAA tournament hopes.

Prediction: Xavier 72, Georgetown 65
