Michigan State vs. Michigan College Basketball Preview, TV Schedule, Prediction

By Trevor Lowry

TV Schedule: Saturday, Feb. 6, 2:00 p.m. ET, CBS

Stadium: Crisler Center

This Michigan State vs. Michigan clash isn’t the biggest game in the history of college basketball, but it still has Big Ten title implications on the line — and March Madness is just around the corner, just in case you didn’t realize it.

The Spartans will do battle with an overall record of 19-4 and Big Ten record of 6-4, while the Wolverines come in at 17-6 and 7-3 in those same departments.

In a nutshell, here is what is on the line: (1) Bragging rights. (2) Another notch on the resume belt. (3) Michigan State can probably kiss its Big Ten title hopes goodbye with a loss, while Michigan would keep its hopes alive with a victory.

Side note: Indiana and Iowa stand at the top of the conference standings at 9-1.

If Caris LeVert is good to go, everything will be different. He is the leading scorer (17.6 PPG) of the Wolverines and one of the best players in the country, after all. In his absence, Michigan has managed to stay alive in the Big Ten race. That said, this squad is coming off of a home loss against the Hoosiers (you know, the same Hoosiers that stand at the top of the conference standings, as mentioned earlier).

While the Spartans did go on a three-game losing streak not too long ago, they have since won three contests in a row. One of those victories came against Maryland, a team that could end up winning a title when the NCAA tournament comes to an end.

At the end of the day, despite the fact that Michigan State will be playing on the road and Michigan could have its go-to guy back, the Spartans still have one of the best players in the game in Denzel Valentine. Folks, he certainly isn’t alone either.

PREDICTION: Spartans 81, Wolverines 69
