Michigan State vs. Purdue College Basketball Preview, TV Schedule, Prediction

By Trevor Lowry

TV Schedule: Tuesday, Feb. 9, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN

Stadium: Mackey Arena

The Purdue Boilermakers are a top 25 team in college basketball and one of the best teams in the Big Ten. If the season ended today, they would make the 2016 NCAA tournament with ease. That said, they could use a signature win in the Big Ten.

They will have a chance to get said signature win in the Big Ten this week, as they take on the Michigan State Spartans next. Best part — well, for Purdue, that is — is the fact that Purdue gets this game at home.

Purdue has struck out against all of the big dogs in this conference so far. It lost two times against Iowa and once against Maryland, but luckily still has this clash against the Spartans and one more contest against the Terrapins. Of course, a victory against the Indiana Hoosiers and another against Michigan would look very nice on that resume as well.

Nonetheless, it appears that the Spartans have completely found their groove after losing three games in a row. They have now won four in a row since that stretch of nightmares, and two of those victories came against Maryland and Michigan (aka two solid wins).

Key players to keep an eye on: Denzel Valentine for the Spartans and A.J. Hammons for the Boilermakers.

Although Michigan State is the favorite entering this one, and should do some serious damage during March Madness (literally all of Tom Izzo‘s teams do), let’s go with the upset. Purdue is no slouch, it has a very stingy defense (allowing 63 PPG), it will be playing at home and its frontcourt can do some serious damage to even the best teams in college hoops.

PREDICTION: Spartans 71, Boilermakers 75
