Boston College Coach Jim Christian Has To Leave ACC Basketball Immediately

By Geoffrey Knox

It’s easy to get overeager and excited at times. Well, that would actually apply everywhere except with the Boston College Eagles. As they advanced in their schedule this year, there was really no reason to get excited as they approached ACC play. Many people expected BC to finish at the bottom of the conference, and they’ve answered their detractors by managing to look even worse than conventional wisdom would have allowed you to believe.

This team truly doesn’t seem to be good at anything. Six of their seven victories have come against teams that you have to use a search engine to find. They’ve rewarded the student section, the press and the citizens of Massachusetts by dropping the other 17 games on their schedule. In nine of those losses they scored 55 points or less — that includes five games where they didn’t even reach 50.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about the ACC, it’s the fact that you have to turn on the television for every single contest. In a game that nobody was watching, Boston College took the North Carolina Tar Heels to the limit; but ultimately, North Carolina would remember that they’re North Carolina and Boston College would remember that they’re Boston College. The Eagles would lose again. If anyone’s keeping tabs they’re without a win in conference play.

Blame can be placed in several places, but just for kicks, let’s put it on the head coach. Before taking the job at Boston College, Christian actually amassed 242 wins against just 153 losses, but that’s where the good news ends. After stepping it up in competition and finding his way into one of the traditional power conferences, it’s been all downhill. He’s only been able to win just under 36 percent of his games, and there’s an improving Syracuse Orange team on the horizon. Expect a last place finish for BC. Christian could honestly leave tomorrow and most of the country wouldn’t even know it until the offseason.
