Northwestern vs. Purdue College Basketball Preview, TV Schedule, Prediction

By Trevor Lowry

TV Schedule: Tuesday, Feb. 16, 7:00 p.m. ET, BTN

Stadium: Mackey Arena

At one point during the 2015-16 college basketball season, the Northwestern Wildcats looked like they were finally going to be a tournament team. Unfortunately, Big Ten play is brutal to even the best squads in the conference.

Entering this clash, Northwestern stands at 17-9 overall and 5-8 in conference play (spoiler alert: that conference record is not going to get the job done in terms of making the dance). Unfortunately and once again for the Wildcats, they take on the Purdue Boilermakers next.

Purdue is 20-6 overall and 8-5 in Big Ten play (spoiler alert: that is more than enough to get the Boilermakers into the dance, and should lead to a solid seed). Purdue is coming off of a loss against the Michigan Wolverines and gets this battle at home. Translation: The Boilermakers should be riding a motivation train into this clash. You know, since they are likely going to be pretty hungry after dropping a game and will get to play in front of their fans.

Nonetheless, this time of the year is rather important for both squads (and every other team in college hoops).

For the Boilermakers, this time of year is all about making that resume pop so the committee gives them a solid seed. For the Wildcats, they might be in miracle mode … which means they likely have to win the Big Ten tourney if they plan on dancing. Stranger things have happened, right?

This contest should be all about Purdue — early and often.

PREDICTION: Wildcats 55, Boilermakers 75
