Ole Miss vs. Texas A&M College Basketball Preview, Prediction, TV Schedule

By Taylor Sturm

TV Schedule: Tuesday, Feb. 16, 9:00 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Arena: Reed Arena, College Station, Texas

Line: Texas A&M (-9.5)

After roaring into the top 10 with their win over the Iowa State Cyclones, the Texas A&M Aggies have lost four straight games and are now out of the top 25. The good news for this team is that they should still make the 2016 NCAA tournament, because all four of these losses came to teams that are at least considered to be on the bubble and three of these were on the road. The bad news is that a few more losses could have the Aggies in the NIT instead of the NCAA tournament.

Next up for Texas A&M is a home matchup with the Ole Miss Rebels, who currently sit three games behind first in the SEC and just one game behind the Aggies.

A shaky 2-5 start to conference play seemed to end the Rebels’ chances of earning an at-large bid in the 2016 NCAA tournament, especially with none of the teams Ole Miss faces after Texas A&M likely to go to any kind of postseason tournament. The Rebels had a terrible non-conference schedule, and it came back to bite them. A road win against Texas A&M would be absolutely massive to their postseason hopes, because it would significantly up their RPI at a time where they might have to win out and win some games in the SEC tournament.

That being said, expect Texas A&M to get back on track in this one. Sure, Stefan Moody is one of the best and most underrated players in the country, and I expect him to get his 20-plus points like always. However, the Rebels’ defense is nowhere near as talented as the Aggies’ defense; Texas A&M wins big at home.

Prediction: Texas A&M 73, Ole Miss 62
