Oklahoma vs. Texas Tech College Basketball Preview, TV Schedule, Prediction

By Trevor Lowry

TV Schedule: Wednesday, Feb. 17, 9:00 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Stadium: United Supermarkets Arena

This might not appear to be the most exciting game on paper, but here are two key reasons to watch this contest: (1) The Oklahoma Sooners are one of the top teams in the country, and are a must-watch every game as a result. (2) The Texas Tech Red Raiders have knocked off the Iowa State Cyclones and Baylor Bears in back-to-back games.

If the Red Raiders can somehow manage to knock off the Sooners as well, they could make a serious case for the 2016 NCAA tournament. As it stands, Texas Tech is 15-9 overall and 5-7 in the Big 12.

The Sooners will do battle with a 20-4 record overall and conference record of 8-4. They are coming off of yet another loss against the Kansas Jayhawks and have actually lost two of three. They will also travel on the road to partake in this battle, which makes an upset a real possibility.

That said, containing Buddy Hield isn’t the easiest feat in college hoops, and the Sooners already knocked off the Red Raiders by the score of 91-67 in 2015-16. Of course, momentum is a very powerful tool in this sport, and Texas Tech certainly has plenty of that going for it.

Nonetheless, here’s what is at stake for both teams: If Oklahoma wins, it will move one step closer to earning a No. 1 seed for the Big Dance. If Texas Tech wins, it very well could find itself on the right side of the bubble.

PREDICTION: Sooners 78, Red Raiders 72
