UCLA vs. California College Basketball Preview, TV Schedule, Prediction

By Trevor Lowry

TV Schedule: Thursday, Feb. 25, 9:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2

Stadium: Haas Pavilion

Unless the UCLA Bruins go on a vicious run down the stretch, which consists of wins, wins and more wins, they will likely be left out of the field of 68 for the 2016 NCAA tournament. When you look at some of the wins UCLA racked up this season (Kentucky, Gonzaga, Arizona), the pain starts to set in for this squad.

The California Golden Bears, on the other hand, are sitting quite nicely when it comes to booking a trip to the dance. Heck, Cal could still end up winning the Pac-12 regular season title, as it is just 1.5 games back of the leader.

California has now won five games in a row, and is starting to look like the Pac-12 title contender we all thought it was going to be — well, at least some of us, that is. Just remember, at one point, the Golden Bears were 4-5 in conference play (they are now 9-5).

Although the Bruins are coming off of a nice win against the Colorado Buffaloes, they still sit at 6-8 in the Pac-12 standings. To get into the dance, they more than likely have to win out (they still have to take on Oregon, so that feat isn’t looking possible) and knock off a couple of opponents in the conference tournament. UCLA would still likely be sweating it out on Selection Sunday, though, as it isn’t even on the bubble radar at the moment.

Cal’s red-hot ways are going to continue against UCLA. Then, in the very near future, folks can expect a possible run out of this squad.

Side note: The Big Dance is all about the matchups, and one upset can open up an entire bracket.

PREDICTION: Bruins 74, Golden Bears 80
