5 Bold Predictions For 2016 Big East Basketball Tournament

The Big East has been one of the more exciting conferences to watch in college basketball season, but it all comes down to the Big East tournament. Several teams need a win or two to solidify their place in the 2016 NCAA tournament, while the Villanova Wildcats need to win out to secure the No. 1 overall seed in the Big Dance. Here are five predictions for the 2016 Big East tournament.

5. No Major Upsets

No Major Upsets Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports
As much as I would love to see Marquette or Georgetown win two games in the Big East tournament, the matchups just do not seem to favor any of the lower seeds. None of the teams that play on March 9 will make it past March 10.

4. Butler Limps To NIT

The Butler Bulldogs started out the season strong, but their defense could not stay with their offense. Kris Dunn and Providence beat them in game one, sending them to the NIT instead of the NCAA tournament.

3. Creighton Upsets Seton Hall

The Pirates have looked great at times this season, but they've looked terrible on occasion. The Bluejays could have easily won their last two games against Providence and Xavier and will come into this game desperate to prove themselves. Remember, Creighton crushed Seton Hall on the road earlier this season.

2. Villanova vs. Xavier Make Final

Sure, this is not a bold prediction by any stretch, but with the talent in the Big East, the No. 1 and No. 2 seed making the final should be a bit of a surprise. These are two Final Four teams that could face off again in the tournament.

1. Villanova Wins, Gives Selection Committee Headaches

Xavier is a great team, but Villanova’s consistency is the key to winning the conference tournament. The Wildcats are currently the No. 1 team in the country and should secure the No. 1 overall seed in the 2016 NCAA tournament. However, the Selection Committee will have a really hard time choosing between Villanova and Kansas for that spot, both of whom deserve it.
