2016 NCAA Tournament Preview: No. 5 Indiana vs. No. 12 Chattanooga

By Trevor Lowry

The Indiana Hoosiers won the Big Ten regular season title, yet they still only received a No. 5 seed for the 2016 NCAA tournament. As a result, they will, of course, have to partake in the infamous No. 5 vs. No. 12 matchup.

The Hoosiers’ opponent: The Chattanooga Mocs.

Chattanooga is bringing one very important thing into this Big Dance clash: Momentum. It has now won five games in a row. Meanwhile, Indiana is coming off of a loss, but it did win five contests in a row before that.

What To Watch For

If you are a fan of basketball, then you need to watch out for Yogi Ferrell. The senior is not only the best player on his squad, but he is one of the best players in the nation, and he has the 17 points per game going for him to prove it. Ferrell is also shooting 41.7 percent from behind the arc and is averaging 5.5 assists per game.

Of course, the Mocs will have to watch out for guys like Troy Williams and Thomas Bryant as well.

Speaking of the Mocs, this squad is averaging 75.8 points per game and is only giving up 66.6 points per contest in the process.

Prediction

Everyone wants to see the upsets. Although they will likely come raining down in this version of the dance, I am not expecting the Big Ten champs to go down this early.

The tournament committee being the tournament committee, the winner of this game will take on the winner of the Stony Brook vs. Kentucky matchup. Indiana vs. Kentucky would surely provide plenty of college basketball fireworks — wouldn’t you agree?

Nonetheless, Yogi & Co. will survive and advance in their first clash of the tourney.

Chattanooga 64, Indiana 75
