2016 NCAA Tournament Preview: No. 4 Duke vs. No. 12 Yale

By Trevor Lowry

As expected, the Duke Blue Devils did some surviving and advancing in their first game of the 2016 NCAA tournament. Next, they will take the court against the Yale Bulldogs.

How Duke got to the round of 32: The Blue Devils took down No. 13 seed UNC Wilmington. On one hand, Duke’s offense was clicking, as it put up 93 points. On the other hand, Duke gave up a total of 85 points, which doesn’t exactly scream championship defense.

How Yale got to the round of 32: In upset fashion — because that is what March Madness is all about — the Bulldogs took down No. 5 seed Baylor. How many people predicted that one?

What To Watch For

As usual when the Blue Devils are playing, eyes will be on Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram. Both players reached the 20-point mark in Round 1. However, Marshall Plumlee also came up big with 23 points of his own.

Makai Mason, the leading scorer for Yale, went off against the Bears in the first round. After all, he scored 31 points. Justin Sears, another Bulldog to keep an eye on, added 18 points.

Prediction

Yale is quite the underdog against Duke — wouldn’t you say? Therefore, an upset would certainly go down in the history books. Unfortunately, said upset likely isn’t going to happen, and if it does, then great.

The Blue Devils have too much firepower for most teams to keep up with, and two of the best players in the dance. Of course, if Duke continues to struggle on the defensive end, things could get very interesting.

Duke 75, Yale 65
