Any list of candidates for a Power 5 conference job is not complete without Marshall, who has built a successful program at Wichita State. His desire to leave is unclear, but Pittsburgh athletic director Scott Barnes should be requesting an interview.

4. Sean Miller

Miller looks like a perfect fit, as a Pennsylvania native and a former Pitt point guard with a track record of success at Xavier and Arizona. Multiple reports have suggested that Miller won't be going back to his alma mater, but reports don't equal guarantees if Pitt comes with a big offer to leave Tucson.

3. Brandin Knight

Knight, who is also a Pitt alum, has been an assistant on Dixon's staff from 2008 to now and his former boss has reportedly endorsed him for the head job. That may not mean much in the big picture of what should be a wide-ranging coaching search, but if continuity moves to the forefront Knight could move over a chair next season.

2. Travis Ford

Ford was recently let go after a bad eighth season at Oklahoma State (12-20, 3-15 in the Big 12), but five 20-win seasons and six postseason appearances during his tenure in Stillwater should bring other opportunities. Pitt could easily become Ford's best option, if a second chance in a big conference comes right away.

Sean Miller's brother is a more realistic candidate for Pitt to target, even if Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports does not expect him to leave Dayton after leading the Flyers to three straight NCAA tournaments. It can be debated if Pittsburgh is a step up from Dayton right now, beyond added pressure of competing in the ACC, but the younger Miller belongs at No. 1 on this list.
