Xavier Assistant Luke Murray, Bill Murray's Son, Claims He's Never Seen 'Caddyshack'

By Brad Berreman

During Xavier‘s NCAA Tournament appearance, actor Bill Murray could be seen in the crowd. His son Luke is an assistant on Chris Mack‘s staff, so there was definitely a rooting interest there.

As the son of a legendary actor, it seems to be a prerequisite that Luke has seen all of Bill’s movies. But that would be the wrong assumption, as the younger Murray admitted during an interview with ESPN that he’s never seen ‘Caddyshack’. The movie was of course a star vehicle for his father, in the role of bumbling, Dalai Lama-caddying greenskeeper Carl Spackler, with more quotable lines than I can get into here.

Luke was born in 1985, so he has a bit of an excuse being born five years after Caddyshack was released. But the film is a comedy classic, not to mention his father having a starring role. So it’s a bit unbelievable not to have set aside 99 minutes (actual run time) to see it, particularly with how prevalent it is on television and the ease of access to entertainment we enjoy in today’s world.

Luke has vowed to make time to see Caddyshack, though his father clearly wasn’t impressed when he admitted to not having seen it. It’s possible it was all a comedic facade, but somehow I believe Luke Murray hasn’t seen one of his father’s best movies.
