2016 NCAA Tournament Preview: No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 2 Oklahoma

By Trevor Lowry

The Oklahoma Sooners will take on the Oregon Ducks in the Elite Eight — and life for college basketball fans really doesn’t get much better than this.

While the Sooners enter with the No. 2 seed, they have been a top team in this sport all season long. The Ducks didn’t necessarily get as much credit for the entire season, but they finished 2015-16 on a red-hot note, which is why they earned a fancy No. 1 seed in the 2016 NCAA tournament.

The Ducks managed to take down the Duke Blue Devils in their last clash to make it to this point. Meanwhile, the Sooners knocked off the Texas A&M Aggies.

What To Watch For

We’ve said his name a million times this season — at least, that is — and we will mention it yet again. Buddy Hield. He is the best player in college hoops, and he is going to get his points. There is simply no stopping him. So, good luck with that, Oregon.

Dillon Brooks is the leading man in the scoring department for the Ducks, and he has scored 20+ points in back-to-back tourney games — just for the record.

Prediction

While Hield & Co. have received plenty of hype on the season, Oregon earned a No. 1 seed for a reason, and they have been proving their worth in the dance so far.

That said, I am not going to be the one who goes against Hield and his Sooners. Figuring out the winner might be a complete coin flip, but Hield has been playing like he is from a different planet, and no one would be surprised if he dropped another 30-point outing in the Elite Eight.

Getting to that 30-point mark or not, Oklahoma will do some more surviving and advancing, and the first No. 1 seed of the Big Dance will go down as a result.

Oregon 74, Oklahoma 77
