Syracuse Has Officially Silenced Doubters By Reaching 2016 Final Four

By Geoffrey Knox

It’s gotten so quiet you can hear a pin drop, because all of those doubters who said the Syracuse Orange had no business in the tournament have retreated, and head coach Jim Boeheim has again led his team to an NCAA Final Four berth. It appears that the coach was right. All of the bracketologists who said they had no business even being in the tournament may not know as much about college basketball as they thought.

It’s easy to blame their 13 losses on all the things we’ve heard all season. Yes, their coach wasn’t even on the sideline at times. Yes, even though many of us knew they absolutely should have been one of the teams invited to the tournament, it’s also safe to say it was a stretch to think that they would have gotten to this point as well.

The Orange plays in the mighty ACC. They’re battle tested. They’ve survived adversity. Their coach has them believing that they can beat anybody because they can. If you’re still of the opinion that this team isn’t ready for this moment, you’re sadly mistaken.

The next stop on their journey has them matched up against a team that the majority of basketball experts expected to be here. It’s been said all year that the North Carolina Tar Heels are the most talented team, and they are. Can they figure out the Syracuse zone defense and advance, or will the Orange continue this run? We’ll know the answer shortly.

Regardless of what happens, No. 10 seeds don’t make it to the Final Four. It doesn’t happen. Maybe that’s proof that there are too many teams in the tournament. Maybe being disrespected will continue to push the Orange. Either way, if this team falls in the next game, it shouldn’t diminish what they’ve accomplished to this point.
