Kentucky Wildcats Freshman Guard Jamal Murray Declares For 2016 NBA Draft

By Jason Fletcher

A few weeks ago, Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari joked that every single player on his team who’s eligible for the 2016 NBA Draft would declare after a new rule pushed back the withdrawal date to May 25. While it remains to be seen if that’ll actually happen, the team’s leading scorer, freshman guard Jamal Murray, is the first to announce his intentions to enter the draft, although he won’t hire an agent at this point.

The 19-year-old guard from Kitchener, Canada was the most consistent player for the Wildcats all year long. Beginning Feb. 2, Murray had a run of 12 straight games where he scored at least 20 points per game as Kentucky went 9-3 during that stretch.

At 6-foot-5 and 207 pounds, Murray is the perfect size for a two-guard in the NBA. He has the length to defend the wings, can shoot the three and gets to the basket with ease. With a little more seasoning, Murray has the potential to be an impact player at the next level.
