Sleeper Teams That Could Win The 2017 NCAA Tournament

By Trevor Lowry

Before embarking on the journey that is rattling off five sleeper teams that could win the 2017 NCAA tournament, let us not forget that so much can happen now until the 2016-17 college basketball season even gets underway. The 2016 Big Dance just recently came to an end, after all.

Nonetheless, here we are, naming off five sleepers who could storm to a title in 2017.

Side note: There are a ton of teams that partake in this sport, so not every possible sleeper can be named off.

5. Syracuse Orange

As we saw this past dance (what a crazy one it was), the Syracuse Orange, no matter what their seed is entering the tournament, are always, always, always a threat during March Madness.

Sleeper team or not, don't be surprised when Jim Boeheim's squad cracks the preseason top 25.

4. Oklahoma Sooners

What do ya know, another team that made this year's Final Four. Unfortunately for next season's version of the Oklahoma Sooners, Buddy Hield will no longer be on the team — and he isn't the only key departure.

Nonetheless, Lon Kruger is still the head coach, and talent will still be on the court every time the Sooners, well, take the court.

3. Texas Longhorns

Well, Shaka Smart didn't take the Longhorns on a wild March Madness ride in his first season at Texas, but that doesn't mean the season was a failure. By the time next season actually starts, Texas might not be a sleeper. That said, and as of right now, they aren't getting as much hype as Duke or Kentucky.

2. Indiana Hoosiers

The Indiana Hoosiers are yet another team that should be ranked when the new season gets underway, but they will have to do battle without the great Yogi Ferrell. As can be expected this time of year, uncertainty is the name of the game.

Two things: (1) Dwayne Bacon (what a great name!) will be back. (2) The Seminoles have yet another talented recruiting class coming in.
