Louisiana Tech Player Tweets Proof She's Not Pregnant, By Tyler Summitt Or Anyone

By Brad Berreman

Tyler Summitt resigned as Louisiana Tech women’s basketball coach last week, with an admittance to an “inappropriate relationship” and a follow-up rumor he had impregnated a player. Exactly who that player is has been been open to speculation, and guard Ashley Santos took to Twitter to squash rumors surrounding her.

Assuming the original indication that Summitt impregnated a player is true, the rumor mill has turned toward guard Brooke Pumroy. Pumroy was at Marquette when Summitt was an assistant there, and she transferred to Louisiana Tech after her sophomore season when Summitt took over as head coach of the Lady Techsters.

A piece from USA Today suggests favoritism from Summitt toward Pumroy, with another player’s mother offering that she had the “green light on everything”. There’s also a suggestion that some players were not going to return to the program if things didn’t change, so that may have been another factor that pushed Summitt toward resigning.

Without some obvious physical evidence that Pumroy is pregnant, and subsequent proof that Summitt is the father, speculation about any Louisiana Tech player being impregnated by her now-former coach is just that. But it’s not a good look for anyone involved, now or going forward, with a lot possibly at stake for Pumroy primarily and Summitt’s professional consequences taking a back seat.
