The 2016 NCAA tournament ended with a Big East team, the Villanova Wildcats, being crowned national champions. With more eyes than ever and higher expectations than ever, the Big East is set to deliver in 2016-17. Here are the way-too-early power rankings for 2016-17 Big East basketball.

Creighton Bluejays — The Bluejays showed signs of life last season, but just could not win games when it counted. That should change this upcoming season.

Butler Bulldogs — After adding Memphis transfer Avery Woodson, Butler has an extremely solid team that should definitely make the 2017 NCAA tournament.

Seton Hall Pirates — After winning the Big East tournament last season, Seton Hall should take a step forward in 2016-17. This is one of those teams to keep an eye on, because it could be average, but it could also be great.

Xavier Musketeers — A fantastic regular season ended in disappointing fashion in the 2016 NCAA tournament, but Xavier has the potential to be a great basketball team next season.

Villanova Wildcats — The winners of the 2016 NCAA tournament, Villanova will be one of the top teams in the country next season, as per usual with Jay Wright’s teams.
