Northwestern Wins NCAA Tourney Debut Thanks to Bizarre, Unnecessary Foul By Vanderbilt

By Anthony Blake

They blew a big lead, but ultimately the Northwestern Wildcats made the most of the NCAA Tournament debut against Vanderbilt by coming away victorious.

And the finish certainly didn’t lack drama.

This unnecessary foul led to two made free throws by junior guard Bryant McIntosh, giving the Wildcats a one-point lead.

Then Vandy rushed down the court and shot an ill-advised three despite trailing by just one point, and Northwestern got the rebound.

Here’s how the final moments of the game played out.

After always saying they had never been to the Big Dance, now Northwestern can say they have never lost a tournament game.
