Georgetown Legend Patrick Ewing Gets Deserved Opportunity as Head Coach

By Anthony Blake

Certain names are just associated with a particular university, and Patrick Ewing is definitely one of those with his alma mater Georgetown.

Thankfully, the Hoyas settled on their former dominant big man to be the next head coach and lead this team into a new era of basketball.

After firing John Thompson III following his 13th season, a new voice was needed for a program that has had a father-son combo as coach for the past 40 of the past 45 years.

Hiring Ewing wasn’t just an attempt to rekindle the past, however, as the former New York Knick has earned his way to a head coaching opportunity by being an assistant for the past 15 years.

Here’s hoping this new era of Georgetown basketball can make some lasting memories of its own under Ewing’s watch.
