Ohio State Offers Creighton's Greg McDermott Head Coaching Job After Thad Matta Departure

By Anthony Blake

Just a couple days ago, Ohio State announced it was parting ways with longtime basketball coach Thad Matta.

Now, the Buckeyes are courting Creighton coach Greg McDermott to lead their squad on the hardwood as a replacement.

And after visiting Columbus on Wednesday night, Ohio State wasted no time offering McDermott the job.

Though the Buckeyes courted NBA names like Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan and Chicago Bulls leader Fred Hoiberg as options, neither one was interested in leaving their positions.

Instead, this appears as though it will be yet another example of a big-money school taking away the talent from the lower-budget institution.
