Oregon Basketball

Since the brackets were released on Selection Sunday, many thought the Oregon Ducks were snubbed by being a given a 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. With victories over both No. 5 seed Oklahoma State and a No. 4 seed Saint Louis, Oregon proved the selection committee should have had them as a higher seed. [...]

5 Reasons Why Louisville Will Win the Midwest Region

Louisville Cardinals Only Have To Worry About Themselves To Win The Midwest Region

Louisville Cardinals Only Have To Worry About Themselves To Win The Midwest Region
Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The Louisville Cardinals enter the NCAA Tournament as the best team in the nation. They are poised to make the Final Four and get out of the Midwest region. They only have themselves to worry about if they are to fulfill these lofty goals.

Rick Pitino will lead his Cardinals in the Midwest region beginning in their foes home court, Rupp Arena. The Kentucky Wildcats weren’t selected for this year’s tourney, even losing their first round NIT game to Robert Morris. Their court will still be in play as the Cardinals open up in one of the most hallowed arenas in the country.

Pitino already has a banner in the rafters at Rupp but now he is looking to do the same at Louisville. It won’t be an easy task to get out of the Midwest region but it’s something that should be accomplished by his team.

This is the best team he has had in Cardinals country since he has been there. Everyone is healthy and raring to go. Only a major upset will prevent the Cardinals from seeing the Final Four.

This might be Pitino’s swan song as assembling this type of talent in the one and down era is getting harder. A Peyton Siva type of player comes only once in a lifetime. For Pitino he’s had it twice with Providence’s Billy Donavan the first. Donavan missed out on his chance to win the championship for Pitino but Siva shouldn’t miss his.

The following are five reasons why Louisville will win the Midwest region and make the Final Four.

Peyton Siva

Peyton Siva is the leader of the number one team in the nation. He is the driving force behind the Louisville Cardinals and is an extension of Rick Pitino. He and Russ Smith form the best back court in the nation.

Russ Smith

One half of the best back court in the nation, Russ Smith is the crunch time scorer that propels the Louisville Cardinals to win close games. It will be his shooting that will make the difference in this tournament.

Montrezl Harrell

Every team needs that X-factor to step up at the right time. The right time is now and Montrezl Harrell is stepping up huge. Scoring 20 points in only 24 minutes in the final of the Big East tournament against Syracuse. He plays with an attitude that the Louisville Cardinals have missed in the past few years and this year's tournament will be his coming out party.

Rick Pitino

Rick Pitino is an old hat at knows how to prepare any team, let alone his number one in the nation Louisville Cardinals, to get wins in the tournament. He knows how to manage the egos that get built by the media in this three week spectacle. This might be the year Pitino gets another banner with his name on it.

Big East Regular Season and Conference Tournament Champions

Big East Regular Season and Conference Tournament Champions
Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The Louisville Cardinals join a select few that won both the Big East regular season and conference tournament. The conference is the best in the nation and the tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York has a NCAA tournament feel and pressure to it.

The Cardinals ran the table in the Big East's final year and that has made them the number one team in the nation. They are the best bet to win the Midwest region and secure a spot in the Final Four.

2013 March Madness: Louisville Undeserving of Top Spot

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The Louisville Cardinals won a share of the Big East regular season title and the Big East tournament; however, the Cardinals don’t deserve the No. 1 overall seed that they received for the NCAA tournament. How are the Gonzaga Bulldogs not the No. 1 overall seed? Louisville may have played a better schedule due to [...]

Louisville Cardinals Deserved The No. 1 Overall Seed In The NCAA Tournament

(Debby Wong/USA Today Sports)

A week ago, the Louisville Cardinals were not even widely considered the best team in the Big East, let alone all of college basketball. But, following a triumphant run through the final Big East conference tournament as we know it, the Cardinals rapidly became the nation’s favorite to win the national title. The national media [...]
