Oregon Ducks Eyeballing 1-7 Conference Start

The Oregon Ducks started the 2013-14 season with such promise. Their 13-0 start was accomplished with Bob Cousy Watch-list member Dominic Artis suspended for most of the streak. After a week to recover from a their third consecutive loss, the Ducks would lose a rivalry game to Oregon State 80-72. The losses have gotten progressively worse, as Oregon State is one of the bottom of the barrel teams in the Pac 12 Conference.

The starters went a combined 7-35 from the floor, a major reason why the Ducks could only muster 38 percent from the field. The three Ducks that were in double figures all came off the bench. 25 points from the starting five of one of the highest scoring teams in the country is inexcusable. The Ducks could play the rivalry game card to try and support their less than stellar play Sunday evening, but Oregon is running low on usable excuses.

The does not get any easier for the Ducks, who now are 1-4 in conference play. Before their collapse, the Ducks were a top-10 team. Now, Oregon faces the possibility of going 1-7 in the month of January. The next three games for the Ducks include trips to Washington and Washington Stateand will play host to ranked UCLAUnless Oregon returns to their non-conference offensive efficiency, the program as a whole will be in dire straits. There are still 13 remaining conference games for the Ducks to get back on track. It is too soon to write off the Ducks in the Pac 12, but Oregon is trending in the wrong direction.
